What is the memory effect?

Rechargeable batteries do actually have what is commonly referred to as a memory. If a battery is consistently used at only partial capacity, the crystal structure of the inner chemicals will physically change, altering the capabilities of the battery. In essence, if you consistently use 25% of a batteries charge, it will change to only offer you 25% of its original charge.


For radio control batteries used in cars, running your vehicle until the charge is used up may not be so difficult. But if you use these radio control batteries in airplanes, draining the battery all the way down in your plane can obviously be disastrous.


Finally, lithium polymer batteries like those above never develop the dreaded memory effect and coupled with their light weight they are perhaps the ideal RC batteries availalbe today!

Handling Safety Information

Charging Safety Tips:


Be absolutely sure that the Lithium battery charger settings are correct for the battery pack being charged if yours is not an automatic charger. Care should be taken to charge on a fireproof surface, such as brick. Do not charge batteries near flammable items or liquids Keep a dry fire extinguisher nearby - or a large bucket of dry sand, which is a cheap and effective extinguisher. Do not charge inside an automobile, especially while driving A lithium ion battery should NEVER be left unattended while charging


Handling Precautions:


New cells may have a high initial charge, and care must always be taken to insure that loose cells are not short circuited. Do not put the loose cells in a pocket, bag, or drawer where they could short-circuit against other items, or the battery tabs could be pressed against each other. Do not place the loose cells on any conductive surface, such as a metal-topped table. Keep loose lithium ion battery cells and battery packs WELL out of reach of children! Take care that the cells are not punctured, especially by metallic objects like hobby knives. If the electrolyte in the cells should get on your skin, thoroughly wash with soap and water. If in the eyes, rinse thoroughly with cool water. Immediately seek medical attention. Although environmentally friendly, a lithium ion battery must be FULLY discharged before disposal. Buy a battery discharger to accomplish this and to avoid the possibility of a short-induced fire after disposal.

Build a remote control helicopter

1.First, you need to decide on which model helicopter you are interested in. Once you have it built youll be ready to start flying no matter which one you decide to build, and for the most part the skill level is the same, so why not pick a chopper that appeals to you?


2.The best way to decide which RC helicopter to buy is to have a look at the different choppers that are available. Read reviews on the different models and types to discover which fly the best and which fly the worst, find out what others like or dislike about certain models. After that, youll be able to make an informed decision and you wont be wondering if you made the right choice.


3.Purchasing your remote control helicopter is just the beginning. Then you will also need to purchase the various parts that you will need like an engine to make it run, the gyro that will control the rotor, the servos and radio controls which is how you will talk to your RC helicopter. The servo is installed in the helicopter and it is where the signals from the remotes are transmitted to.


4.Next, you need to be sure that you have all the tools that you will need to build your helicopter. Remember, anything that turns must be balanced, your end points need to be equal, and all the bolts need to be tight. If you have a friend thats an experienced RC helicopter pilot, ask them to look over your project to make sure youve got it all right.

How fly rc Helicopter

The tail rotor blades rotate to exert force in a sideways direction that keeps this from happening. How does the tail rotor know when to exert this force and how much to exert? Thats where the gyro comes in.


The gyro takes feedback from how the pilot is controlling the helicopter and how the helicopter is turning. If it determines the sideways spinning motion occurring is not being called for by the pilot, the gyro employs the tail rotor to react to keep the helicopter in the desired position.


Now that you have the basics of radio control helicopter models flight, youll know part what youre looking at when you select your model. Youll also know the basics of movement, which will go a long way in learning to control your helicopter.



How Radio Control Helicopter Models Fly 1

Changing the angle of these spinning blades controls much of the motion of the helicopter. Changing the angle of both blades at the same time causes collective motion. Changing the angle of an individual rotor blade causes cyclic motion, the direction depending on how the blade is angled.


The main rotor blades of radio control helicopter models are connected to the rotor head, the component in between them that spins, which is in turn connected to both the swash plate and the main shaft.


The main shaft is the rod responsible for the rotation of the rotor head and the main rotor blades. The swash plate, which is located below the rotor head, is responsible for the angling of the main rotor blades. Part of the swash plate is stationary, connected to the main body of the helicopter, while the other part is connected to the rotor head and rotates.


The swash plate transfers motion to the rotor head through pitch control rods. These rods move in response to changes in the swash plate and angle the rotor blades accordingly. All of these components working together control the flight of the helicopter.


Another important part of the radio control helicopter models relating to these controls is the gyro, or gyroscope. When the engine transfers energy to the rotor head and main rotor blades, causing them to turn, the natural reaction of the main body of the helicopter, the fuselage, is to turn in the opposite direction.

RC enthusiasts

Many more hobby rc cars come in kit form. You get all the parts necessary to assemble the model including instructions. Often, such basics as the body, motor and radio control electronics may need to be purchased as extras. The benefit of the kit is that there is much to be learned about your car that you will learn during building, and this knowledge will help when making any necessary adjustments or repairs. Building time of a kit can range from 10 hours to 20 hours. The other obvious advantage here is that you can fully customize your hobby rc car to your heart's content. Of course, this is the more expensive route to go so it really depends on your desire and wallet.


"Scale" is a term with two meanings. In one sense, it can refer to the size relationship between a model and an actual vehicle. For instance, the most popular scales of R/C vehicles are 1:8, 1:10 and 1:12. The 1:10 scale category definitely provides the most choices for a first-time hobbyist. However, scale can also refer to a hobby rc cars trueness to a real car's appearance and/or features. Many popular street and racing vehicles have been recreated "to scale" for RC enthusiasts to enjoy.

the excitement level. They are an excellent starter RC snowmobile but if you really want a rush youll want to invest in a nitro powered


version.


If you invest in a nitro model get ready to enjoy an aggressively designed snowmobile thats ready to race through the backcountry, or


race against your friends. Because of the speed associated with the nitro units its not the best starter option.


You should spend some time at slower speeds learning how your snowmobile responds to the remote controls. That way youll save yourself a


lot of downtime doing repairs. Actually if you crack up at high speeds you could destroy your snowmobile and your winter fun.


The nitro remote control snowmobile are more geared towards adult modeler or a very mature teen modeler. The sound effects of the nitro


make it very real, and there is no question that their high performance makes them a great choice for that higher level of excitement.

Electric Radio Control Airplanes

Whats all the buzz about electric radio control airplanes?


Arent they huge, heavy, and hard to fly? No, those days are long gone when the size of your battery took up at least half the plane. Just as modern advances in battery cells have taken the automotive industry into practical, affordable gas-electric hybrid vehicles, so have those same advances done wonders for the electric radio control airplanes world.


Today's lithium batteries have gotten lighter and more powerful, resistances have lowered resulting in less overheating, and these things together have led a big growth trend in the number of radio control enthusiasts switching to or even getting started in electric radio control airplanes.


Perhaps one obvious benefit is that you dont have to lug around nitro fuel wherever you go. Along with that, you arent always searching for that elusive fine line between rich and lean that keeps some gas-powered plane owners awake at night. Granted, if maintenance is your thing and flying is a fun and necessary by-product, then youll probably want to stick with your gas-powered models. For some plane owners there is nothing like good old-fashioned elbow grease.


If, however, you live to fly and wish your plane would magically maintain its engine while stored away waiting for the next outing, perhaps electric is your way to go. The electric radio control airplanes systems include battery cells, a motor, a control, and wiring. And likely you wont be called on to repair any of it on a regular basis.


The batteries are mostly NiCd/NiMh cells with the number of cells determining the level of output of the battery pack. When a battery cell goes, it goes. Buy a new one and carry on. The same with a motor. Maybe all this replacing of parts sounds like a waste to you, but realistically these parts can last forever if taken care of. Run a motor within its limits and it will keep on running. But if you fry it, its pretty much gone.

Their low volume output motors allow them to be flown in more areas with less resistance from the community. Their lack of engine noise also makes them seem less intimidating and therefore less dangerous by many who are sharing a park or open space with them.


And perhaps the most practical advantage of electric radio control airplanes is that they can be taken out for a quick flight, packed back up, and theres no worrying about fueling up then draining the fuel for storage.

Electric Model Airplanes Info

Much of the attraction of model airplanes is how realistic the aircraft looks in comparison with its full size counterparts. The molding of plastic certainly isnt a process you would want to carry out in your own garage, but this technology offers several benefits to the construction of model airplanes. The main benefit is that pieces and components can be formed that are very precise and of great detail. This results in smooth curves, accurate and well-defined detail, and a basically more aerodynamic and realistic model.


So what is injection molding, anyway? In injection molding, a detailed mold is created for model components. These molds are made in a variety of ways from detailed carving to creating a mold from an already formed piece. Once the mold is created, small plastic pellets are heated and the resulting melted plastic substance is injected into the mold. Injection is more effective than pouring because it gets the plastic into small crevices and very detailed parts of the mold. The plastic is then allowed to cool, and thus the part is formed.


Essentially, many models today are made from a collection of each of the types of materials depending on the components themselves. Basically, the type of material you will use for each of the parts of your aircraft depends on size and sturdiness of the individual part, the level of detail you want, and how much of your model airplanes components you want to build from scratch.

Business brokers will be able to help you find businesses in this market that are for sale. The cost of buying a business or franchise is related to the customer base, the reputation of the business and the profitability. Starting one depends on how quickly you want to grow and the number of customers you can sign up to use your service. In either case you will need some money to run and own the business. The business will dictate how much is needed. Once you find a business for sale, the negotiations will be critical if you need the help of the current owner in order to make the purchase. If this is the case, the price will probably be higher to buy the business. Other sources for coming up with the money are relatives and friends, the bank and business lending. Each source has its own problems and pluses. The real meat of the matter is how much extra you will need to make the deal.




Several concerns with this business are apparent. Can another owner assume the customers under contract? How much longer are the contracts in force? Is there a continuation clause in the contract that controls the fees that are charged to do the work? Is there a sales person that is responsible for getting new clients or was that what the old owner did for the company? This is important if the new owner is not a sales type of person. Infants of mothers who are not married were shown to be at higher risk for poor outcomes. In 2005, infants of married mothers had an infant mortality rate of 5.25 per 1,000 live births, 45 percent lower than the rate for infants of unmarried mothers (9.61). Marital status may be a marker for the presence or absence of social, emotional and financial resources. Also, the infant mortality for mothers born in the 50 states and the District of Columbia (7.26) was 43 percent higher than the rate for mothers born elsewhere (5.08). A variety of hypotheses may account for the lower infant rate, including possible differences in migration selectivity, social support, and risk behaviors. Also, women born outside the 50 states and the District of Columbia have been shown to have different characteristics than their U.S. born counterparts with regard to socioeconomic and educational status.


Approximately two-thirds of all infant deaths in 2005 (18,782 out of 28,384) occurred during the neonatal period (from birth through 27 days of age). The neonatal rate for infants of non-Hispanic black mothers (9.13) was more than twice those for AIAN (4.04), non-Hispanic white (3.71), API (3.37), Mexican (3.78), Central and South American (3.23), and Cuban mothers (3.05). The highest postneonatal mortality rates were for infants of non-Hispanic black (4.50) and AIAN (4.02) mothers, about twice the rate for non-Hispanic white mothers (2.05). Postneonatal mortality rates for Mexican (1.75), API (1.51), and Central and South American mothers (1.46) were lower than for non-Hispanic white mothers.


The three leading causes of infant death-congenital malformations (20 percent), low birth weight (17 percent), and sudden infant death syndrome (8 percent)-accounted for 44 percent of all infant deaths. The fourth and fifth leading causes were maternal complications (6 percent) and cord complications (4 percent). Together, the top five causes accounted for 54 percent of all infant deaths in the United States in 2005. The percentage of infant deaths that were ''preterm-related'' increased from 34.6 percent in 2000 to 36.5 percent in 2005.


There were also additional statistics concerning infant mortality risks among education levels, levels of prenatal care, and for infants born to mothers who smoked during pregnancy. The infant mortality rate for mothers who completed 16 or more years of school was 4.15 in 2005. The rate was 51 percent lower than the rate for mothers who completed less than 12 years of education. The rate for mothers with a college degree was 3.60, 63 percent lower than the rate for mothers with less than a high school diploma (9.84).


The timing and quality of prenatal care received by the mother during pregnancy can be important to the infant's health and survival. In 2005, the mortality rate for infants of mothers who began prenatal care after the first trimester of pregnancy or had no care at all was 8.69 deaths per 1,000 live births, 40 percent higher than the rate for infants whose care began in the first trimester (6.20).


The infant mortality rate for infants of mothers who smoked was 11.44, 74 percent higher than the rate of 6.58 for non-smokers. The use of tobacco during pregnancy causes the passage of substances such as nicotine, hydrogen cyanide, and carbon monoxide from the placenta into the fetal blood supply. These substances restrict the growing infant's access to oxygen and can lead to adverse pregnancy and birth outcomes, such as low birth weight, preterm delivery, intrauterine growth retardation and infant mortality. Maternal smoking has also been shown to increase the risk of respiratory infections and inhibit allergic immune responses in infants.

Introduction to Using Lithium Polymer Batteries in Your RC Helicopter


Lithium Polymer batteries are currently considered the best electric power source available for use in electric rc helicopter kits. The reason for this is that lithium battery packs are significantly lighter than NiMH or NiCD packs, and have higher capacity for the same size. Over the last five years they have worked their way into the hobby market, and in addition to being used in electric rc helicopter kits they are also common in rc boats, cars, and airplanes. Their low weight and high capacity make them ideal for long flight times, while also providing more power.


Understanding Lithium Polymer Battery Specifications:


Lithium Batteries are also know as LiPo, Li-Po, LiPoly, and Li-Poly. What do all the lithium battery specifications mean? The values that are the most important are:


Pack voltage (depends on cell count; each cell is 3.7 V)


Capacity (mAh)


"C" rating (describes the rate at which power can be drawn from the battery)


Lipo Battery Cell Voltage


The nominal voltage of each cell in the pack is 3.7V, but this can go down to 3.3V during discharge, and up to 4.2V when fully charged. A battery pack is composed of two or more cells put together in series for increased voltage, or in parallel for increased capacity. A 2 pack with 2 cells in series would be rated at 7.4V (2x 3.7V).


The battery pack configuration is denoted by the number of cells in series and the number of cells in parallel. A 3s2p pack would have three cells in series, and 2 cells in parallel, using a total of 6 (3×2) cells. A 4000mAh 3s2p pack would have a capacity of 4000mAh (2 x 2000mAh), and a voltage of 11.1V (3 x 3.7V). It would internally consist of six 3.7V 2000mAh lithium polymer cells. The cells would be doubled up (the 2p part of 3s2p) to get 4000mAh, and there would be three in series (the 3s part of 3s2p) to get 11.1V (3 x 3.7V).


The "C" Rating


The "C" rating describes how quickly a battery can be discharged. A 2000mAh LiPo battery with a "C" rating of 1C continuous would mean it should not be discharged any faster than 2000mA or 2A, which would take one hour. A 2000mAh pack rated for 12C continuous would be able to discharge at 12 times its capacity (12 x 2000mA = 24000mA or 24A) at which rate it would discharge in 1/12th of an hour. Using a pack with a higher C rating than you require will leave some room for safety, and extend the life of your battery.


Continuous Current:


If you know how much continuous current will be drawn and the capacity of the pack you want to use, you can easily determine what C rating you require. If you are drawing 5A from a 1320mAh pack, simply take the current and divide by the capacity: 5A = 5000mA, 5000mA / 1320mAh = 3.8C.


Burst Current:


LiPo batteries are also given a C rating in terms of burst, which is how quickly the battery is able to discharge for a short time. A burst rating of 20C would mean a 2000mAh battery could supply 20 x 2000mA = 40000mA or 40A for a few seconds.


Selecting the Best LiPo Battery for Your RC Helicopter


To select a battery for your rc helicopter, you first need to know what voltage you require and how much current you will be drawing continuously.


If the motor in your rc helicopter is rated to work with 11.1V, you would need a 3 cell battery.


If you need to draw 20A, and you would like your rc helicopter to have a 10 minute (1/6th of an hour = 6C) flight, you would need a battery with 20A / 6 = 3.3A = 3300mAh.


This means you would need to put a 3s 3300mAh battery with a C rating of 6 or higher in your rc helicopter.

Using a Model Helicopter to DIY RC Aerial Photography

RC helicopters are the perfect platform for aerial photography. Recent developments in wireless video systems, gyroscopic stabilization and electronics have made it possible to take high quality images and video with a RC helicopter.


Alan Ramsdell is an electrician and long time RC enthusiast who lives in Sanford, Maine. Recently, he has begun retrofitting one of his RC helicopters with a high resolution digital camera to do RC aerial photography. The helicopter is also equipped with an infrared sensor mounted on the tail, which can sense the temperature difference between the ground and the sky. It uses this to self stabilize, and helps to steady the camera when doing RC aerial photography.


The modified RC helicopter is also equipped with a radio which sends a wireless video signal to the ground, so that Ramsdell can see what the camera sees. Once the helicopter is in position, a switch on the transmitter will trigger the camera. This allows the helicopter to be used for very high quality, targeted RC aerial photography.


RC photography is a great way to get aerial pictures and video, without the expense of hiring an actual plane and pilot. Depending upon the features of the RC helicopter, and whether its an off the shelf solution or you built it yourself, you can expect to pay anywhere from $2000 to $20,000 for equipment.

Eating fish

According to an article published by the Mayo Clinic, eating fish that contains omega-3 fatty acids is very good for your heart. If you eat one to two servings of fish a week, you could be cutting your chances of having a fatal heart attack by at least one third. This isn't a new approach; the American Heart Association has recommended this for years. Although there are concerns about contaminants in fish, such as the level of Mercury content, at least two large, federally sponsored studies have concluded that the heart health benefits of eating fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids usually outweigh the risks associated with contaminants.




A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, established fish consumption could reduce the risk of dying from heart disease by one third, and the overall mortality was 17% less.




Another study released by the Institute of Medicine found that eating seafood also seems to support a healthy heart.




According to Donald Hensrud, M.D., chair of Mayo Clinic's Division of Preventive Medicine and associate professor of preventive medicine and nutrition, "Fish contain unsaturated fatty acids, which, when substituted for saturated fatty acids such as is contained in meat, may lower serum cholesterol. But the main beneficial component appears to be omega-3 fatty acids in fatty fish. Omega-3 fatty acids have many potential beneficial effects including improving cognitive function in developing children, decreasing triglycerides, lowering blood pressure, reducing blood clotting, enhancing immune function, and possibly others. However, the strongest benefit from omega-3 fatty acids is reducing the risk of sudden cardiac death, which appears to be due to decreasing the risk of abnormal heart rhythms."




Fatty fish that contain the most omega-3 fatty acids include salmon, herring, and tuna. In addition, many types of seafood contain small amounts. Two three-ounce servings per week of fatty fish are recommended. Due to their high susceptibility to toxins found in fish, Dr. Hensrud recommends that children, as well as women of childbearing age, should limit the amount of canned Tuna to 6 ounces per week and limit other fish eaten to a maximum of 12 ounces a week. In addition, they should avoid eating certain fish like shark and swordfish altogether.




Toxins in fish include mercury, dioxins, and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). How much toxin a fish has is dependent on the type of fish and where it was caught. Each state issues advisories concerning a safe amount of locally caught fish for consumption. Fish that have higher levels of mercury include shark, tilefish, swordfish, and king mackerel, as they are large fish that feed on smaller fish that, in turn, store methyl mercury in their own bodies from their own dietary consumption. Therefore, these fish have more concentrated mercury content.




Don't like Fish? Although supplements and non-fish foods have not been proven to have the same level of heart healthy benefits of eating fish, people with heart disease can take supplements of omega-3 fatty acids or eat non-fish foods that contain omega-3 fatty acid with some benefit. These include flaxseed, flaxseed oil, walnuts, canola oil, soybeans and soybean oil.

1. Check the ball links for looseness or slop. They'll wear out over time and if they're not on tight, they can pop off during flight and cause a crash.


2. Check all mission critical nuts and bolts to make sure they're on tight. Excessive vibration can cause them to back off or come loose, even if you've used thread lock.


3. Inspect the wiring. Visually check the wiring for damage and ensure that there are no breaks or cuts and that the servo plugs are securely plugged into the receiver. If you have any servo wire extensions, make sure the connections are solid.


4. Test your radio. If it's your first flight of the day do a range check and make sure there's no interference nearby and that the throttle hold functions are working properly. It would also be a good idea to quickly check your trims to be sure you haven't bumped one out of position.


5. Check that everything's working properly and moving as it should. Check the throw direction for all pushrods and servos and make sure the swashplate is moving as it should. It's very easy forget to change a radio setting back to normal when bench testing.


6. Check your tail belt tension. A loose belt can cause slippage and loss of tail control. A belt that's too tight will put unnecessary wear on your motor and other tail drive system parts potentially causing a problem. Squeeze it with your fingers to ensure it's tight enough, but not too tight.


7. Make sure everything's mounted securely. Make sure that all parts that are mounted with pads, Velcro, zip ties or double sided tape are attached securely.


8. Check your batteries. Make sure your batteries are all fully charged and secured properly. If possible, test them with a volt meter under load. Also visually inspect them for damage or potential causes of short circuits.


9. Inspect your blades and flybar. Visually check that they're aligned properly and that they're on securely. Move them a little to make sure the dampers aren't broken or worn out.

How Do mini rc helicopter Work

These micro models are usually controlled by a 2 channel proportional infrared control system that controls the up/down and left/right movement. Some mini rc helicopter take into account the main rotor speed and adjust the tail rotor to compensate as you ascend or decent while with others you'll need to manually adjust the trim.


The whole system is powered by a small lithium polymer battery that is usually charged off the infrared transmitter in just a few minutes - this also eliminated more costly AC/DC wall plugs.


The tail rotor is powered by an even smaller brushed motor that's attached to the fixed pitch tail rotor.


There are no gyro's in mini rc helicopters like in conventional rc helicopters. Instead they have a trim switch which controls the speed of the tail rotor. Once you find the balance to counteract the rotational force of the main rotors, the tail will pretty much remain steady.


Most mini rc helicopters take about 10 - 20 minutes to charge and can buzz around for about 5-7 minutes depending on the model.


The gyroscopic action has a tendency to maintain it's axis of rotation relative to the ground and when no cyclic input is provided, it will keep the rc helicopter level. The secret behind their stability in the air is the weighted flybar. The flybar is attached to the main rotors and functions similarly to a gyroscope.

Fly a RC airplane is a challenge

Learning how to fly a RC airplane is a challenge within itself, and could never be fully taught over the internet or through some book. The best way to learn is to get real flying experience with an instructor at first, and then on your own later. You can find an instructor at a local RC airplane and airplane club. RC airplane clubs are most common and exist in just about every state and country, and since most of them will have experience with planes they most likely will also know how to fly RC model airplanes too.
